© Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesAfter a three-card stint on “Fight Island,” the Octagon returns to UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Saturday (Feb. 6, 2021) with a pivotal Heavyweight clash in tow. In UFC Vegas 18’s main event, the venerable Alistair Overeem puts his two-fight win streak on the line against perennial contender Alexander “Drago” Volkov. Down at 135 pounds, former Lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, looks to make it two straight at Cory Sandhagen’s expense and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner, Macy Chiasson, faces Marion Reneau.
It’s a fine return to action after two weeks away, and one we can profit from. Here’s how:
What Went Wrong at UFC 257?
Too many eggs in one painfully inconsistent basket. I really should have known better than to trust Khalil Rountree, even against the likes of Marcin Prachnio. In my defense, the article came out before his weight cut issues came to light. It’s a damn shame about Dan Hooker, though. It still shocks me that Michael Chandler was able to floor him with one punch when Dustin Poirier carpet-bombed “The Hangman” to no effect. I’m slapping an extra hypothetical $300 onto the hypothetical money pile. Let’s turn this around ...
UFC Vegas 18 Odds For The Undercard:
Michael Johnson (-220) vs. Clay Guida (+180)
Mike Rodriguez (-245) vs. Danilo Marques (+205)
Timur Valiev (-335) vs. Martin Day (+275)
Devonte Smith (-280) vs. Justin Jaynes (+240)
Karol Rosa (-225) vs. Joselyne Edwards (+185)
Molly McCann (-155) vs. Lara Procopio (+135)
Youssef Zalal (-240) vs. Seung Woo Choi (+200)
Ode Osbourne (N/A) vs. Jerome Rivera (N/A)
Thoughts: As one-sided as it is, this undercard is full of bargains, namely Timur Valiev, Lara Procopio and Youssef Zalal.
Ufc Odds Vegas Insider
Valiev was almost even money against initial foe Julio Arce, and while -335 is a far cry from -125, he’s still worth an investment. The guy’s still an incredible fighter despite that debut loss, and Day has dropped three straight. Valiev has the kickboxing skill to keep up on the feet and is by far the better wrestler, making him a safe investment.
Molly McCann’s defensive wrestling has failed her in both of her Octagon losses, and she’s largely had to rely on her offensive wrestling against low-level Flyweights in her wins. Not only is Procopio significantly superior on the mat, but she’s a skilled enough striker to hold her own a weight class up against Karol Rosa.
She’s fefinitely a solid underdog investment.
Las Vegas Ufc Odds
Seung Woo Choi has fought two quality UFC opponents (Movsar Evloev and Gavin Tucker) and one very, very bad one (Suman Mokhtarian), The quality duo combined to land 10 takedowns on him, and considering Zalal’s willingness and ability to drag opponents to the mat, that’s a death sentence. Choi doesn’t even figure to have much of an edge on the feet, as Zalal’s length, durability, and savvy make landing a knockout shot a borderline impossible task. “The Moroccan Devil” should be a much larger favorite, so make sure you’re in position to punish the bookies for their error.
UFC Vegas 18 Odds For The Main Card:
Alexander Volkov (-185) vs. Alistair Overeem (+160)
Cory Sandhagen (-400) vs. Frankie Edgar (+325)
Macy Chiasson (-210) vs. Marion Reneau (+175)
Alexandre Pantoja (-130) vs. Manel Kape (+110)
Cody Stamann (-380) vs. Askar Askar (+315)
Diego Ferreira (-120) vs. Beneil Dariush (EVEN)
Thoughts: Alistair Overeem, Alexandre Pantoja and Cody Stamann are your investments of choice.
I’m genuinely not clear on why Alexander Volkov is the favorite against Overeem. That’s because “Drago’s” best wins came over Fabricio Werdum and Walt Harris, both of whom Overeem also defeated, and looks to struggle against the Dutchman’s mobile striking offense. On top of that, Volkov has yet to fully address the grappling issues that have plagued him throughout his UFC career, presenting another tempting target for the well-rounded Overeem.
In short, the veteran is a definitely worth your time.
Manel Kape has looked like a monster in his last few Rizin bouts, but those came against opponents willing to oblige him in the stand up. The last time he faced a capable grappling specialist, “Ulka” Sasaki dominated him on the mat. Pantoja is tough as nails and a hugely dangerous submission artist, giving him the tools necessary to spoil Kape’s Octagon debut.

Stamann, meanwhile, was -310 against Andre Ewell, which if anything undersold the stylistic nightmare he posed to “Mr. Highlight.” He’s still a bargain at -380 against Octagon newcomer Askar Askar, not to be confused with Flyweight contender Askar Askarov. Askar is an okay wrestler with painfully bad striking defense that Stamann should have little issue exploiting, making “The Spartan” a reliable anchor.

This guide will help you understand how betting odds work.
There are 3 different kinds of betting odds; Fractional, Decimal and American. American odds are often called Moneyline odds.

HOW DO DECIMAL BETTING ODDS WORK?
Decimal odds are the easiest type of odds to understand.
To calculate your winnings using decimal odds, simply multiply your [tooltip text=”stake” gravity=”n”]Your “Stake” is the amount of money you wish to bet[/tooltip] by the decimal number. For example…
If you placed a $10 bet at odds of 2.00, you would simply multiply 10 by 2.00 to calculate your return.
10 x 2.00 = 20.00 = $20 return from your $10 bet
How about placing a $15 bet at odds of 1.57?
15 x 1.57 = 23.55 = $23.55 return from your $15 bet
That was easy wasn’t it?

HOW DO AMERICAN [MONEYLINE] ODDS WORK?
American odds are calculated based on how much money you have to bet in order to win $100. The odds are always accompanied by either a plus [+] or minus [-] symbol. The symbols determine whether you need to bet more than $100 (-) or less than $100 (+), to win $100.
This may sound confusing at first, but it’s really not that difficult!
Lets jump right into an example of how American odds work. Remember that American odds are all about how much money you have to bet, in order to win $100.
Imagine the odds looked like this for a particular fight…
Fighter A = -150
Fighter B = +200
When working with American odds, you need to remember that the minus [-] symbol always means that you will have to bet more than $100 to win $100. Minus [-] odds are considered the “favourite”. Odds with the plus [+] symbol are considered the “underdogs”.
If you take a look at the odds above, you can see that Fighter A is the favourite at -150. This means that in order to win $100, you would have to bet $150.
Fighter B on the other hands is a +200 underdog. This means that you would only have to bet $50 to win $100. Here are a couple more examples using more challenging odds…
Fighter A = -600
Fighter B = +1000
In this example Fighter A has odds of -600, which means that you would have to bet $500 to win $100. Fighter B on the other hand has odds of +1000, which means you’d only have to bet $10 to win $100.
Working with American odds will take some getting used to and it can be difficult to work out the exact amount of money you will win from your bets at first.

HOW DO FRACTIONAL BETTING ODDS WORK?
Fractional betting odds are favoured in the United Kingdom and Ireland and they’e the most popular type of odds used in Horse Racing. Although they may look confusing at first, they’re actually not that hard to work out. Lets jump right into looking at an example of how Fractional odds work…
If you wanted to bet $50 at odds of 6/4 six to four, this is how you would work it out:
First you have to add the numbers of the fraction together, in this case it would be 6 + 4 = 10. Then divide this number by the second number, in this case 4. 10 divide by 4 = 2.5. Then multiply this number by your stake. 2.5 x 50 = 125. Your return for a $50 bet at odds of 6/4 would be $125.
(6+4 = 10) 10 divided by 4 = 2.5
2.5 x 50(stake)= £125
