Charles Wells has reported a year of “steady progress” as it grew pre-tax profits from £6.5m to £6.7m and reduced net debt by £18.8m to £44.7m, due to the sale of its distribution depot and its Kestrel Super Strength brand. Charles Wells Ltd (also known as Charles Wells Brewery and Pub Company, and previously as Charles Wells Family Brewery) was founded by Charles Wells in 1876. In 1875, a 2 1 ⁄ 4-acre site came to auction on the banks of the River Ouse as it ran through Bedford. Have certainly stuck by me. My family has got a long history with the brewery. My father-in-law was the Electrical Manager in the brewery under the Head Engineer; my wife used to work for the former Director of Registrar back in the day, while my daughter has worked in customer care.

An authentic pub bringing a real taste of England to the area, the Red Lion offers a wide range of bottled and traditional draught English beers – they’re all brewed at our brewery in Bedford, in the north of London. The Red Lion also provides a snack menu for those who feel a little peckish.
